Tracy McCartney

Tracy McCartney is a contemporary artist, whose work focusses on colour and connection. With an academic background in arts at Cambridge College and Leeds College of Art and Design, England, Tracy’s practice explores how hues and shades influence our emotional and social landscapes.

Her vibrant pieces are an exploration of both human connection and the connections made through experience and experimentation. At Cambridge University, Tracy engaged deeply with the history of art and visual culture, benefiting from the university’s rich academic resources and interdisciplinary approach. The insights gained from the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, coupled with access to the Fitzwilliam Museum and other cultural assets, helped shape her understanding of how art can convey complex emotional narratives.

Continuing her education at Leeds Arts University, Tracy delved into the practical aspects of colour theory and its impact on human perception. The university’s emphasis on studio-based learning and its dynamic creative environment allowed her to experiment with various mediums and techniques. This experience honed her ability to translate abstract concepts of connection into tangible, emotive artworks.

At the heart of Tracy’s work is a profound appreciation for the richness of human interaction. She believes that every encounter and relationship is a unique interplay of emotions, experiences, and perspectives, all of which are subtly reflected in the colours we use and perceive. Tracy’s art aims to capture this complexity, creating a visual dialogue that resonates with the viewer's personal experiences and connections.

Her work reflects the multifaceted nature of human relationships, portraying not just the surface but the depth of our interactions. Each piece is a testament to the idea that human connection is not static but a dynamic and evolving process, constantly influenced by our individual and collective experiences. The imperfections in the work are no longer visible when the whole artwork is completed – this is a reflection of determination and consistency required for growth and connection.
