This is one of a series of works exploring the quintessential Australian Eucalyptus or gum tree. This tree has also been a part of the Aotearoa New Zealand landscape since the early European settlers. Recent discoveries of fossils of the trees here suggest they have been part of our landscape for thousands of years earlier than we had realised. The Eucalyptus is used medicinally and is considered of great emotional and spiritual significance to the Aboriginal people. In many ways, they cause a similar response to both nations as the Pohutukawa does.
The billabong is a very quiet water, so the talking of the stones are soft and hushed reflected in the soft colours of the eucalyptus.
